Hawaiian Sea Turtle

I started this watercolor last night and… finished it today. I know it’s fast and actually there’s always an inner voice telling me “don’t rush this, take your time or you’re gonna ruin everything” while painting… But I just love starting new paintings. I can’t stay too long on the same work. I guess I’m not patient enough but anyway… Here’s my new watercolor. Hope you like it.

Who’s That Chick?

Riri… AGAIN! Just so you know, Rihanna is not my favorite singer… I’m actually more into pop/rock and country music. But I DO love her songs, I have almost all her records.

Since she entered the music industry, she has released soooo many hit songs. It’s impressive that she always dominates the charts. Whether you like her or not, I think she’s part of pop culture just like Lady Gaga or Madonna…

Thank you Debbie for giving me the idea of doing a series of Rihanna. (Check out Debbie’s amazing artwork:

) I love when people/artists(!) show interest in my art. So if you have other ideas or requests, tell me.

Rum Pa Pa Pum, Rum Pa Pa Pum…

Here’s a watercolor of “Riri”… Rihanna! I just LOVE “Man Down”, I’ve listened to it a million times now. I think reggae suits her voice perfectly and I wish she would release more reggae influenced songs. And I’m a big fan of her bright red hair too! Best color ever for such a strong personality (I was pretty excited to paint it actually).

I painted it on a small piece of watercolor paper because… I usually can’t bear the idea of throwing paper away. So imagine how I feel when it comes to wasting WATERCOLOR paper! ;) Anyway I like painting on small sheets because it allows me to test new things. I’m not 100% satisfied with the result but I still like the bright colors I used.

“Twenties Girl”

10X11 cm (3,9X4,3 inches)

Last year I bought “Twenties Girl” by Sophie Kinsella. I read  it on my summer vacation and for the first time I managed not to get distracted by the noise around the pool… I just need quiet in order to read, I’m not blaming anyone here! ;)  But THIS book is totally fantastic and entertaining. If you love chick lit, mystery novels AND ghost stories, you won’t regret it!  Trust me…

Before reading it, I didn’t know much about the Roaring Twenties. And what I love about reading is that you can learn tons of things… This book has made me want to know everything about the 20′s. So now you know why I painted this gorgeous flapper lady.

As for the dragonfly, I painted it because “Twenties Girl” tells the story of a ghost, Sadie, who needs to find her missing dragonfly necklace so she can rest in peace. But she needs help, that’s why she decides to haunt her great-niece, Lara…

Besides the dragonfly has many different symbolic meanings, which I think is pretty interesting for such a small (but nonetheless charming) thing!
